Spray Tanning Instructions

Prepping is Key!

If you take the right steps to prep your skin for a sunless tan, no one will ever guess it’s faux. The better you prep the longer your tan will stay.

Before Your Tanning Appointment:

  • Avoid heavy make-up, lotions, & oils on the face and body
  • Exfoliate 1 day before your spray tan – a fresh body w/o deodorant is best day of the tan
  • Avoid using soaps with alpha-hydroxy or salicylic acne treatment
  • Shave the day before or several hours before - avoid shaving minutes before the tan
  • Women commonly wear a bathing suit, g-string, or bra/panty in dark colors  (keep in mind, some solution will get on these garments but also comes off for the most part in the wash). Just remember to think of tan lines. Women can go topless or nude; I am comfortable if you are! Men must wear running shorts, board shorts or fitted underwear.

Caring For Your Tan Is Important!

I want you to get the most out of your spray tan. If you follow the post-care instructions your gorgeous glow will last much longer and fade more evenly.

After Your Tanning Appointment:

  • Dark, loose fitting clothes are a must - avoid tight clothing, bras, buckles, belts, straps, or tight elastic!
  • Don’t touch yourself after your tan, it can darken your fingers & leave “marks” on your tan – be careful with pets, and small children
  • Avoid water, rain, and any splashing of water - take care when washing hands (you’re off the hook, let someone else wash those dishes!)
  • If you have had your face lightly sprayed avoid washing it at night if you haven’t reached your development hour. Also avoid brushing your teeth. If you are not super careful drip marks are bound to happen.
  • The top layer of bronzer may get on clothing/sheets; it usually washes off, but may stain silk, nylon, and spandex
  • For your first shower, expect the top layer of bronzer to wash off.  This is normal.
  • Protect your tan when showering; try to avoid harsh soaps/scrubs the first week and don’t go crazy with cloths or towels.
  • Keep your skin hydrated - avoid moisturizers that exfoliate or bleach the skin!
  • Wear sunscreen as necessary; the DHA has no sunscreen and you will be more susceptible to sunburn, spray sunscreen is recommended
  • Hot tubs, pools, steam rooms, heavy sweat, and harsh soaps/scrubs shorten the life of your tan
